Poetry at the TAG Pics

I took a few pictures Thursday evening at the TAG Gallery with my cell phone.  They’re a little blurry – I should know better than to try the zoom – but it will give you an idea of how much fun we had.

In one we see Patricia Cherin being serious with a piece.  And in the other?  Well, that’s Gerald Locklin singing opera.  He also did some tap dancing.  All as part of his poetry reading.  It was great.

Master Chorale Begins Season - Auditions Sept. 14th

This just in from the MoVal Master Chorale.  They are holding auditions for their new season beginning September 14.
Let me clarify.  The auditions begin September 14 – the new season bows December 6th with their “Messiah” Sing-A-Long.  Definitely not to be missed.
MORENO VALLEY MASTER CHORALE BEGINS  NEW SEASON
On September 14, at 7:00 P.M., the Moreno Valley Master Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Viorel Gheorghe, will begin rehearsals for its 2009-2010 choral season.
The Chorale will be preparing for a Handel's "Messiah"-Sing-a-long on Dec. 6th, and for its "Carols by Candlelight" concert on Dec. 13th which will feature Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio, as well as many other Christmas favorites.

New singers are encouraged to join the Chorale for rehearsals starting on Sept. 14th at the Valley View High School Choir Room, located at 13135 Nason Street in Moreno Valley. Several youth scholarships are available for students 16-21 years of age who would like to perform with the Chorale.

Other concerts planned by the Chorale will include a "Blessings of Baroque" concert in February, Haydn's Theresian Mass in April, and an "Operatic Journey Through Europe" in May.
The Chorale is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that has been in existence since 1986 in Moreno Valley.  They have been recognized as the "official singing group" of the City of Moreno Valley, and also receive financial support from the City.
Concerts by the Chorale are accompanied by the Loma Linda Lyric Symphony Orchestra, also under the direction of Dr. Viorel Gheorghe.

Please call (951) 485-8414 for more information, or to request an audition for a scholarship.

And about those scholarships…
MORENO VALLEY MASTER CHORALE OFFERS YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS
The Moreno Valley Master Chorale would like to invite youth 16 to 21 years of age to audition for several youth scholarships that have been made possible through the donations of the City of Moreno Valley, Kohl's Department Store, Altura Credit Union, and many private donors.
These scholarships would allow the winning singers to participate with the Chorale in every concert for the 2009-2010 choral season with free tuition.  Please call (951) 485-8414 for more information or to set up an audition.

Poetry Reading Tonight in the Mall

With this first post, I get to announce that tonight, at the TAG Gallery in the Moreno Valley Mall, is what may be the last of the TAG Poetry Readings. But if we are to say farewell to the Gallery, we couldn’t do it in better style.

Tonight’s featured poets are Gerald Locklin and Patricia Cherin. Gerry is a living legend. A long-time member of the Cal State Long Beach faculty, his work is already being archived, and is the subject of many papers. Tricia heads the Master of Humanities program at Cal State Dominguez Hills and has just published a delightful book, Journey In Flagrante.

It was also my pleasure to interview both poets at KPFK-FM this weekend as host of The Poets CafĂ© program. (I’ll post here and in the calendar when I find out the air time for the shows.) They are both as entertaining live (if not even more so) than they are on the page, so you’re certain to have a good time.

Also, it will be nice to celebrate the TAG Gallery, and the marvelous work of Laurie Phillips, Sunny Klann and the people of TAG (The Arts Group) over the past year.

The reading is at 6:30 pm, and open readers are invited. (A three poem / five minute limit applies.)

You will find the TAG Gallery on the lower level of the mall, directly across from Sears, next to Anna’s Linens. You will also see the work of local artists on display.

Keep checking back as the blog grows. News and conversation about the Moreno Valley arts scene is only going to become more exciting.

Plus, I’ll be adding a calendar at the bottom. It will be a one-stop shop to find out the when and where of the arts in town.

Thanks for stopping by.
